Over time, our teeth do gradually become discolored or yellowish due to aging or personal habits such as drinking coffee, tea, alcohol or smoke. In today advancement in technologies, there is a variety of smile whitening methods and technologies. Your smile can easily be whitened in a number of ways.

Types of tooth whitening

  • In-office tooth whitening : instant whitening results using light-activated gel to brighten teeth.
  • Take-home tooth whitening : customised trays and prescription whitening gel done at home.

Procedure of in-office tooth whitening

  1. Evaluation and pre-whitening tooth shade selection.
  2. Gingival protection is placed to protect your gums.
  3. Whitening gel is professionally applied.
  4. Gel is laser-activated in 15-minutes intervals and repeated as necessary.
  5. Gel is rinsed off and gum protection is removed. You are now ready to show off your White Smile!

Pocedure of take-home tooth whitening

  1. individual customised trays made.
  2. Application instructions are given along with syringes of whitening gel.
  3. The whitening gel is placed in a thin customised tray that fits over your teeth over a period to time as prescribed by your dentist.

Care for tooth whitening

  1. Avoid consuming color-staining foods and drinks for at least one week.
    • coffee, tea, red wine, coke, etc.
    • smoking
  2. If experiencing some sensitivity in teeth after laser tooth whitening
    • Avoid hot, cold or acidic food and beverages
    • Pain medication be taken as directed as long as there is no medical contradiction based upon your medical history
    • Use flouride rinse and toothpaste for sensivity teeth
  3. If experiencing some sensitivity in teeth for take-home bleaching
    • Wear the tray for a shorter period of time (for example, two 30-minute sessions vs. two 60-minute sessions)
    • Stop whitening your teeth for two to three days to allow your teeth to adjust to the whitening process
  4. Simply follow good oral hygiene practices
    • Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
    • Floss at least once a day.
    • See your dentist for regular professional check-ups and cleanings.
